Vocabulary by Grade Level

In Year 5, most students start learning English at secondary school. First vocabulary covers family, school, home and hobbies.

In Year 6, French often starts as a second foreign language. English continues with more complex vocabulary.

In Year 7, English and French deepen. Vocabulary expands towards everyday life, travel and media.

In Year 8, Spanish often starts as a third foreign language. English and French continue at intermediate level.

In Year 9, vocabulary in all foreign languages becomes significantly more demanding. Topics like environment, careers and society are introduced.

Year 10 concludes the middle school phase. Foreign language core vocabulary is consolidated and expanded – an important foundation for upper school.
