Fly swatter

Fast, loud and popular: two students compete to swat the right word on the board.

How to play

  1. 1

    Stick 10–15 word cards in the target language on the board.

  2. 2

    Two students stand in front of the board, each with a fly swatter.

  3. 3

    You say the meaning in the students’ language – whoever hits the right word first gets the point.

  4. 4

    The winner stays, and a new challenger comes forward.

Variations

  • Teams: the class plays in two teams, everyone takes a turn.
  • Reversed: words in the students’ language on the board, you say the word in the target language.

Let the class repeat the answer in chorus – that way the audience practises too.
