Charades

A student acts out a word and the class guesses in the target language. Especially good for verbs, animals and hobbies.

How to play

  1. 1

    A student comes to the front and draws a word.

  2. 2

    They act it out without speaking.

  3. 3

    The class guesses in the target language, e.g. “Est-ce que c’est un chat ?”

  4. 4

    Whoever guesses correctly goes next.

Variations

  • Teams: two teams take turns, each has one minute per word.
  • Sentences instead of words: advanced students act out whole sentences, and the class must say them in full.
Tip

With the word card below, the student draws the word on the projector without the class seeing it – just cover the screen briefly.
