When my brother Liam turned twelve, he met a girl named Emma at his new school. They were both shy and loved reading fantasy books, so they quickly became best friends. Emma was always there for Liam, whether he needed help with homework or just someone to talk to after a bad day. She had a way of making him laugh, even when he felt like nothing could cheer him up. Over the years, their friendship grew stronger, and they started spending almost every weekend together, exploring the woods near their houses or watching movies late into the night. Liam’s parents often joked that Emma was the sister they never had, and Emma’s family treated Liam like one of their own. Things changed when Liam got accepted into a university in another city. He was excited but also nervous about leaving Emma behind. On his last day at home, Emma gave him a small notebook filled with memories they had shared—ticket stubs from movies, photos, and little notes about their adventures. She told him that no matter how far apart they were, their friendship would stay the same. Now, years later, they still call each other every week and visit whenever they can. Even though they’ve both made new friends, they know that no one will ever understand them quite like they understand each other.
